Hard Techno DJs: the 12 artists who dominate the scene in 2026

of reading - words

Hard techno djs no longer pretend. BPM pushed between 140 and 160, kicks saturated to the point of saturating the subs, melodies reduced to the bone: the genre has established itself as the center of gravity of European underground nights. Do you want to know which hard techno DJs are really hitting the decks in 2026, from Berlin to the Rex Club to Austin? Here are the 12 artists to know, with their labels, their sound signatures and the scenes where you can meet them.

The essential things to remember

  • Hard techno is played between 140 and 160 BPM (compared to 128 to 135 for classic techno)
  • Sara Landry dominates the world scene with more than 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify
  • Nico Moreno is the French headliner, resident of the Rex Club and boss of the Naive label
  • Berlin (Berghain, Tresor), Paris (Rex Club), Barcelona and Austin concentrate the most active scenes
  • The labels that make the year: ARTS, Kaos, Drumcode Hard, Naive, Key Vinyl, Intrepid Skin

What is hard techno?

Hard techno is the hard, fast and saturated version of classic techno. Appearing in the 1990s between Berlin and Rotterdam, it has regained momentum in recent years thanks to a generation of DJs who refuse compromise. BPM between 140 and 160, distorted kicks on the verge of breakdown, industrial pads, and one intention: to stick you to the wall from the first measure.

The difference with standard techno? Classic techno builds an atmospheric progression, lets you breathe. A hard techno set locks you in a sound tunnel. No tray. No breaks. The genre borrows as much from hardcore gabber as from industrial, with sometimes acid trance incursions.

The most active scenes in 2026: Berlin (Berghain, Tresor), Paris (Rex Club, Dehors Brut, Possession), Barcelona (Razzmatazz), Amsterdam (Awakenings festival), and Texas where Sara Landry brought out a whole US faction.

Sara Landry: the undisputed queen

Originally from Austin, Texas, Sara Landry exploded between 2022 and 2024 to become the world figure of hard techno. More than 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify, festival lineups that she headlines (Tomorrowland, Awakenings, Boiler Room), and a visual aesthetic that has established the current codes of the genre: industrial look, dark imagery.

His style: ultra-percussive hard techno around 150-155 BPM, with saturated kicks and atmospheric textures that evoke black metal. She manages her label HEKATE, which also serves as a platform for a whole generation of emerging US artists. His Boiler Room Austin set crossed 10 million views on YouTube.

Nico Moreno: the French standard-bearer

If France has a hard techno champion, it's him. Nico Moreno imposed a sharp, very percussive sound, which oscillates between 145 and 150 BPM. Resident of the Rex Club in Paris, he co-founded the Naive label which today serves as a rallying point for an entire French generation. Its collaboration with Trym (several resounding B2Bs at festivals) has made it a reference beyond France.

What makes its identity: dry kicks with a metallic texture, minimalist breakdowns that break the set in two, and an ability to last 2h30 at peak time without ever lowering the intensity.

I Hate Models: the free Parisian electron

Paris has its own UFO. I Hate Models founded ARTS Records, one of the most influential labels in the trance techno and hard techno scene in Europe. His style mixes hyper-fast trance, industrial and hardcore, with a strong emotional signature: he often lays melancholy layers over kicks at 150+ BPM. Hard techno, but with soul.

We see him regularly at Berghain, Dekmantel, and at major European festivals (Awakenings, Time Warp). ARTS Records remainse his main playground, with regular releases that define the sound of the genre.

999999999: the Italian duo who never give up

Giangiacomo Silvi and Nico Moreschi form the duo 999999999 (also written "Nine Nines"). Based in Italy, they run the label Nineteen93 and their sets regularly reach between 150 and 160 BPM with a very marked hardcore rave aesthetic. Their Awakenings appearances marked a turning point for festival recognition of the hardest genre.

Their signature: chaining hypnotic loops with remixes of 90s rave classics, often with pitched vocal samples reminiscent of the great happy hardcore era.

SPFDJ: the Berghain resident

Lindsey Herbert, better known by her alias SPFDJ (Sweden, based in Berlin), is one of Berghain's most respected residents. She runs the label Intrepid Skin which combines a punk, DIY, feminist aesthetic around hard techno. Its sound: rather 140-150 BPM, with dub depth and selections that mix electro, hard groove and industrial techno.

She has become one of the political figures of the scene, actively defending the diversity of lineups and the safety of dancefloors.

Klangkuenstler: the bridge between melodic and hard techno

Tim Reiter a.k.a. Klangkuenstler holds a unique position: he bridges the gap between the melodic techno of Drumcode (where he regularly releases) and pure hard techno. His releases on Filth on Acid and Drumcode Hard are recurring festival hits. His sound revolves around 140-148 BPM, with memorable synth lines which earned him great popularity in peak time at Time Warp or Awakenings.

Trym: the Norwegian rocket

Trym Soevdsnes, from Norway, exploded between 2022 and 2024 with a series of tracks that have become festival standards (including releases on Key Vinyl and his own label Eternal Rhythm). He regularly shares the headliner with Nico Moreno. His signature: breakbeats integrated into the 4/4 kick, BPMs around 145-155, and a very frontal rave energy.

Hector Oaks: the Berghain guarantee

A Spaniard based in Berlin, Hector Oaks has been one of the pillars of Berghain for more than a decade. He runs the Kaos label and the Herrensauna party, two underground institutions. Its sound oscillates between 140 and 150 BPM with a very old-school Berlin aesthetic, hypnotic loops, and a radical refusal of flashiness. Less media coverage than Sara Landry or Nico Moreno, but respected by the entire scene.

Lilly Palmer, Rebekah, Azyr, Kobosil: the others to follow

Lilly Palmer (Germany) regularly signs on Drumcode and Filth on Acid, with a very square and festival-ready 138-145 BPM sound. Rebekah (Birmingham) is one of the historic figures of the UK scene, with her label Elements and sets at Berghain for over ten years. Azyr (United Kingdom) is the rising star Key Vinyl, often programmed at Verknipt and Possession. Kobosil (Berlin), resident of Berghain, manages the R Label Group label and remains an absolute reference for the dark Berlin sound.

Your hard techno dressing room

A set by Sara Landry or Nico Moreno cannot be worn in a beach t-shirt. Hard techno has generated a whole clothing aesthetic: black techwear, asymmetrical cuts, harnesses, hoods, wraparound glasses. For your next rave, you can draw from our collections:
