KitKat Club Berlin: dress code, parties and how to enter
of reading - words
The KitKat Club is one of the best-known clubs in Berlin, and probably the most ill-prepared to receive visitors in jeans and sneakers. If you want to spend a night there, there is one rule that takes precedence over everything else: the dress code. Here's what you need to know before you go.
The essential things to remember
- Dress code required: leather, latex, harness, bodysuit, lingerie, mesh (casual outfits are refused at the door)
- The Carneball Bizarre (Saturday) is the flagship evening, strict on the dress code
- Address: Köpenicker Straße 76, Berlin, metro Heinrich-Heine-Straße (U8)
- Price: €10 before 10 p.m., €12 after, higher on Saturdays
- Arriving in groups (more than 3) considerably reduces the chances of entry
What the Berlin KitKat Club really is
Opened in 1994, KitKatClub is no ordinary techno club. It is a space where electronic music, sexual expression and fetish aesthetics coexist in an atmosphere which remains, thirty years after its creation, unique in Europe. What is less known: the club has moved four times since its founding, driven out each time by Berlin's gentrification. Its current version in the Mitte district is its fifth address.
The KitKat welcomes up to 1,500 people on three dance floors. The place has an outdoor area with swimming pool, a sauna, several bars and a playspace. The club's policy is inclusive of genders and orientations, and diversity is required at almost all evenings.
The KitKat dress code: rule number 1 for getting through the door
This is the rule that makes or breaks your evening before you even enter. KitKat applies a fetish, kinky and creative dress code at the entrance, and the doormen have no qualms about refusing someone who doesn't make the effort.
What happens:
- Leather, latex, vinyl, PVC (alone or layered)
- Harnesses and shoulder belts (woman or man)
- Fine lingerie worn as main outfit
- Festival bodysuit tight, mesh, fishnet
- Corsets, collars, bondage outfits
- Elaborate gothic looks, glitter + strong makeup
What gets refused:
- Classic or regular slim jeans
- White sneakers or sports shoes
- Basic t-shirt without any fetish element
- Classic evening outfit (shirt + pants)
- Anything that looks like unworked streetwear
On Saturday evening (Carneball Bizarre), the refusal rate can reach 50% even for people in proper attire. The doormen also judge the attitude, the size of the group (maximum 2-3 people) and the coherence of the whole. A well-chosen festival lingerie, worn with conviction, often makes the difference.
The unmissable evenings: Carneball Bizarre, Electric Monday, Symbiotikka
Carneball Bizarre (Saturday)
The main KitKat party. Strictest dress code of the week, electronic music and dark techno, the most intense atmosphere in the club. This is the reference when talking about KitKat to someone who doesn't know it.
Electric Monday
The most accessible evening of the club. On Monday, the atmosphere is more relaxeddue, the dress code remains obligatory but the interpretation is a little more flexible. Good option for a first visit if you want to test the place without maximum pressure.
Symbiotikka (Wednesday)
Mid-week evening with a more specific musical identity. More regular audiences, fewer tourists. The dress code remains in effect.
Unity
Recurring evening with a more queer/inclusive orientation. Attends the second Friday of the month according to the program. Le Revolver (gay night) also occupies Fridays.
Always check the current program on kitkatclub.org before planning: the evenings are moving.
Address, access, times and prices
Address: Köpenicker Straße 76, 10179 Berlin (Mitte district)
Metro: Heinrich-Heine-Straße, line U8, a few minutes on foot
Hours: generally opening at 10 p.m., closing early in the morning (6 a.m.-8 a.m. depending on the evening). On Sunday, some evenings start in the afternoon.
Prices: €10 between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., €12 after 10 p.m. Carneball Bizarre Saturdays may be higher depending on the event. No guaranteed reservation: even with an online ticket, entry remains subject to the decision of the doormen.
Internal rules: no photos in the club (phone put away once inside). The cloakroom is obligatory for certain evenings, which often allows you to leave your street clothes on.
What to wear concretely: the pieces that fit the door
You don't need a sewing budget to pass the selection. The main thing is to have one or two clearly identifiable fetish elements and to wear them with confidence.
A men's harness worn over a bare torso or over a black bodysuit: this is one of the most effective combinations at KitKat, for both men and women. Simple, readable, in the tone of the place.
For a women's outfit, a festival bodysuit in mesh or fishnet, combined with a harness or fishnet stockings, more than covers the entry criteria. Add strong makeup and you're in the expected register.
If you want to go further: women's festival outfits in kinky or dark techno style allow you to build a complete look without sacrificing comfort for a night that can last until the morning.
The golden rule: own your outfit. KitKat is not a place for those who are ashamed of their looks.
